The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has inaugurated the ‘North East Research Conclave 2022’ on May 20, 2022 in the presence of eminent persons. It is being held at the IIT Guwahati campus jointly with the Department of Science, Technology and Climate Change and the Department of Education, Government of Assam between 20 and 22 May 2022.
Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Bishwa Sharma, Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonwal and Minister for AYUSH, Minister of State for External Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh inaugurated the program and education among other dignitaries.
The three-day conclave will host around 5,000 celebrities from the Northeast as well as other parts of India. Participants come from various sectors such as industry, academia, start-ups, research councils, PSUs, laboratories and technical institutes including schools and colleges.
“There needs to be greater coordination among industry, academia and policy makers to solve the country’s problems and meet the needs of the poorest of the poor. NERC provides a platform for all stakeholders to come together and collaborate. This conclave will help create a strong ecosystem of research and innovation and take it to a measurable level, “said the Minister of Education.
The third edition of Assam Biotech Conclave 2022 is also being held as part of NERC 2022. The aim is to create a common interface for collaboration and showcase the best research and development activities through exhibitions from all educational / research institutions and industries across the state. Northeast India.
At the same event, the government of Assam and IIT-Guwahati entered into an agreement to set up a healthcare institute that would use advanced technology to transform medical science.
Under the partnership, a research institute and postgraduate medical college, offering degrees, and a 350-bed multi-specialty hospital will be set up on the existing IIT-Guwahati campus at a cost of Rs 546 crore.
