RJD supporters were rioting outside 10, Circular Road, where Rabri Devi lives, and were locked inside by a CBI team that raided her home on Friday in connection with a case against her husband Lalu Prasad in connection with the rail recruitment. Stigma
The CBI’s probe and interrogation continued for hours amid high protests by RJD protesters blaming the NDA for political revenge after Lalu Prasad resigned as railway minister a year ago.
Heavy police were deployed outside the government bungalow, Rabri Devi was assigned to be the former chief minister and was located just a stone’s throw away from the chief minister’s official residence when it was time for the CBI team to leave.
However, officials from the investigating agency were apparently wary of passing through the crowd, which raised slogans against the agency.
Late on Friday evening, Rabri Devi herself came out with her eldest son Tej Pratap Yadav to help the CBI spies get out safely. The video footage went viral on social media on Saturday morning.
The former chief minister, who is at heart a patient homemaker, can be seen in the video in a simple, unarmed salwar kameez, urging his supporters to calm down.
A 66-year-old man was beaten across the face by a particularly disobedient supporter, who was turned away by security personnel on duty.
“Madame and Lalu are like mother and father to us. You don’t mind if your parents slap you for naughtiness,” said one eyewitness.
